Big Boys food is really the same across the board. It is all good food all the time. The only problem with this Big Boy is the long wait. Everyone at my table ordered breakfast and for eggs, it took such a long time to get to our table. Of course when we got our food we were happy. It did taste great. I hope this Big Boy picks up their speed and next time, in the far future, they won't be as slow.

Great experience. The establishment is clean and the service was very friendly and efficient. The manager was present on the floor checking on all the guests. Even though I came during the dinner rush our food was out of the kitchen in a few minutes. For those not familiar with the big boy chain, it is standard American... Burgers, chicken and fries.

I've been here twice and both times I've been very happy with my experience. Notably, our server Rhonda. She was happy to be our server both times. My son is a bit persnickety with food, people, places, and things. She was smiling, very pleasant, and gave us the impression she was happy to see us. She engaged in small talk with my son, which made him feel very important, and was very helpful with the many questions I had about the soup, and salad bar. My son now tells me this is his favourite restaurant, and I'm happy to oblige him.

As some of you know, I am definitely not Big Boy fan. But this location is an exception. It is clean and updated looking, the service is attentive, and the food is well prepared. I'll never be the person who suggests going to Big Boy, but if someone else suggests it, I'll recommend this one.

Everyone was moving in slow motion. On a ten minute wait with 3 open tables. I just left after seeing they didn't know what the hell was going on. This was Sunday at 2:30 March 1st. Staff seems like meth heads

I guess I had to move away from Detroit to realize just what a sucker I am for Big Boy. In Tennessee the old Big Boy Franchise Shoney's (Formerly known as Shoney's Big Boy) had a spat with the Big Boy franchise in the 1980s and it became its own entity. On one of my first visits I confidently ordered a "Big Boy" and they looked at me like I had just denounced their religion. But enough about another place! From a young age I have been a Big Fan of the Big Boy. I'm sure it has helped contribute to making me the "Big Boy" I've ended up, but that does little to change the fact that Big Boy is great. Granted, it might not be any better than any other "Sit down" place nearby, but do those places have the Big Boy sandwich? NO! they don't. Do they have the Big Boy Hot Fudge Cake? Nope! So stop in for a Big Boy and Hot Fudge cake today. Granted, you won't want to eat anything else for the rest of the day, but just think how good it will be!

Big Boys is a Classic Americana Diner who this year is celebrating 75 years! A pretty big miles stone these days. Big Boys is a Detroit staple. My Slim Jim was money, my natural cut french fries were super crispy which made it easy to slop up all that Heinz ketchup. The cream of broccoli is one of the best cups a soup you can get, broccoli florets and stems with tiny pieces of ham complemented by oyster crackers. The battered fish & chicken strips keep the kids satisfied until they get there free red, white & blue popsicle. We treat our selves to the delicious strawberry pie or shortcake, which never fails to leave us waddling to the car rubbing our belly. The service here is always outstanding and the restaurant is always super clean. This is my new GO TO Big Boy! Outstanding job guys keep up the good work

We came in for a late lunch on Sunday and it was definitely an A-OK 4-star experience at best (more on the minus-1 in a minute). I had previously been here multiple times when I lived here and was fine with it as a quick bite to eat. We came because I had heard on a Yelp Talk message that they had what's called the Big Irish and that's what I wanted to get my wifey as she was helping me clean out my old house's garage. The atmosphere and service here is clean and wholesome. Our friendly older lady server was as attentive as can be and very nice. The restaurant itself was clean and obviously family friendly. The breakfast bar looked okay, but I opted for a chicken sandwich and the wife got the aforementioned Big Irish. The fries came out seasoned well and hot and crispy, and my buffalo chicken sandwich was a little messy, but the bun was soft and golden and my wife did enjoy her Big Irish as the corned beef on burger combo is something she craved. The prices were a little high especially when you think about it, they were the same prices as Red Robin down the street and you get unlimited steak fries with them. Although Red Robin doesn't have the Big Irish, we both remarked that if we were going to pay $9 for a burger and fries, she would have preferred to at least get the unlimited fries. So, would we come back in this area? Most likely not- but if you do want breakfast, this place is ok if you can't get into the Breakfast Club literally a block away. While cleaning out the garage, my wife had the sudden urge to puke and take a number 2 at the same time, literally not 2 hours after we ate at Big Boy. While I can't guarantee it was the burger (as i took a big bite) itself, it would not surprise me if there were some cross-contamination between the burger and the corned beef. I don't want to be debbie downer and blame Big Boy for cross contamination when I can't confirm it one way or another, i'll just take off one star and we probably won't be back ever anyway.

First time going to this location but I was really impressed. The layout is ok for the space and seems to be very clean. The wait staff was polite all the way around and I enjoyed my experience. My only complaint is the footprint of the location. It's very small and narrow and can be a real pain to park and leave on a full stomach.

It's a Big Boy, what do you expect from them? It's a decent diner type food restaurant. I kinda wish they would do more with the menu, I would come here more often.

I'm so sorry to the other reviewers, but, you must be smoking the bo-bos or something!!! First of all, it's a fucking Big Boy, so let's get a grip and not wet ourselves mmm-kay? Second of all, the food is NOT that great, and it's hit or miss at BEST. I took my Diva Queen daughter for breakfast here last weekend, it was her idea. She ordered strawberry milk. she got pink milk with no strawberry flavor whatsoever, and didn't drink any more of it. The look of surprise was kinda sad. It tastes like NOTHING, she said. Do you think the fucking waitress even noticed a FULL glass of milk sitting there our whole meal??? Um, no, she didn't. On the even darker side, they didn't even toast my english muffin, and my hashbrowns were sour. Yes, I said sour. Like bad, like sat out too long and now they're bad, bad. Bad like if I ate any more of it I would be sick, bad. But since the waitress never came back to check on us, it's not like I could get a new order, or have them AND the fucking milk taken off my bill. This is the kind of shit that just gets me so angry. If you're gonna be in the service industry, then fucking SERVE!!!! Jesus! I don't even remember what DQ had. Pancakes I think. Either way, I was pissed and even more pissed to pay a $20.00 bill that the waitress dumped at my table and skeedaddled off right quick. Now, i'm not saying that EVERYTHING here is terrible, or that no one should ever come here, but take it for what it is. It's a lower middle class diner that sometimes has some ok food sometimes. I don't think i've ever scoffed at the hot brownie sundae, and usually their Slim Jim is ok. There, something positive. /Unstellar!!!

Sometimes I like the finer things in life. Other times I just want something normal and down to earth. For me, that's Big Boy. I grew up in a small town with few restaurants, but Big Boy was one of them. Going to Big Boy is like going home for a home cooked meal (especially when your mother doesn't cook much.) According to a server once, this is the busiest Big Boy in Michigan and it's easy to see why. The restaurant is decorated in a '50s diner motif. It's large, clean and bright. The menu is the standard menu of a standard Chico Grande including the salad bar. I prefer one of the sandwiches like the Big Boy, Swiss Miss, Patty Melt and Brawny Lad which all sound like character names from a bad '80s cartoon. The desserts are really great. Tonight I tried the Nutter Butter topping on a sundae and it is magical. Seriously, if you like peanut butter get it immediately. I've always had good service here and it's always been a nice experience. I know this isn't the fanciest of restaurants, but it's the fanciest of the Big Boys (or similar restaurants) and that's why it gets 5 Stars.

We came here for the seafood buffet one Friday during Lent. It was a random craving and we just wanted to go somewhere casual and cheap where we could gorge on lots of fried things and coleslaw. That we did, and happily. The food was what you'd expect, but I was quite surprised by the level of service at this Big Boy. Our waitress, though we ordered the buffet, kept refilling our drinks and making sure everything was okay. The host was a super nice guy and when he rang us up before we left was genuinely interested in making sure we had a good time. In general I don't really expect anything of these types of places but this location left me wanting to respect my elders and hold the door for ladies with strollers.

Had fish & chips and milk shake. Milk shakes are good and plentiful. Under $4 regular price and half off after 8pm. Fish and chips are worthy as well, and tarter sauce is one of the better tasting ones. Under $9 for the meal. Service was good and place appeared clean. Will go there again to investigate other menu items.

This may be the cleanest, friendliest, and most magical Big Boy of them all! I have eaten here a few times and never have I had a problem or regret with a decision. The servers I have encountered take pride in their jobs, despite it being a staple entry level position for many in the world of food service. Once they even made me a triple-decker grilled cheese per request--for some reason it's no longer on the menu. I think their cabbage soup is delicious. Sure, the salad bar may only stock a spring mix/iceberg blend but all in all it's pretty varied for the rest of the toppings. For non cabbage soup fans, there are usually about four other options. The menu is pretty standard for American fare; from sandwiches to spaghetti (now available as unlimited) and breakfast served anytime, it's all there! Now I don't know if I would want to eat a chicken finger scramble--yes, with eggs--but it's an option. Make sure you save room for dessert. Big Boy has a wide variety of pies (Strawberry, Banana Cream, Pumpkin), the famous hot fudge ice cream cake, and my favorite, the puff. The puff is pictured with apples but I generally substitute hot fudge instead. There is also a current Nutter Butter sauce option for sundaes, and milkshakes, etc. It is amazing! It tastes like peanut butter with cookie bits in it. Sure it may be gritty, but when paired with the sweet, sweet, smoothness of ice cream it's pop goes perfection. If you're looking for a nostalgic dining experience (Big Boy always makes me think of my childhood--or high school), or just a plain decent meal, consider Big Boy on John-R. Remember, it's not the Sizzler, but it is delicious. Note: I have never eaten at a Sizzler, but I somehow think it being fancy eating. I am sure it isn't. Well, maybe I'm not sure. . . perhaps I'll check yelp.

One of the newest and cleanest Big Boys in Michigan. This Madison Heights location is ALWAYS busy, but rarely have a wait. I've been eating at Big Boy for nearly 30 years... This location has pretty solid food. Tasty breakfasts and pretty decent dinners. One thing I steer clear of is the chicken.. for some reason, I've had 2 or 3 different occasions at this Big Boy where my chicken was under-cooked! That will keep me away from ordering chicken from here on out but I still enjoy most other things on the menu.
